The National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) is an electronic system that contains information on certain automobiles titled in the United States. NMVTIS is intended to serve as a reliable source of title and brand history for automobiles, but it does not contain detailed information regarding a vehicle's repair history.
All states, insurance companies, and junk and salvage yards are required by federal law to regularly report information to NMVTIS. However, NMVTIS does not contain information on all motor vehicles in the United States because some states are not yet providing their vehicle data to the system. Currently, the data provided to NMVTIS by states is provided in a variety of time frames; while some states report and update NMVTIS data in “real-time” (as title transactions occur), other states send updates less frequently, such as once every 24 hours or within a period of days.
Information on previous, significant vehicle damage may not be included in the system if the vehicle was never determined by an insurance company (or other appropriate entity) to be a “total loss” or branded by a state titling agency. Conversely, an insurance carrier may be required to report a “total loss” even if the vehicle's titling-state has not determined the vehicle to be “salvage” or “junk.”
A vehicle history report is NOT a substitute for an independent vehicle inspection. Before making a decision to purchase a vehicle, consumers are strongly encouraged to also obtain an independent vehicle inspection to ensure the vehicle does not have hidden damage. The Approved NMVTIS Data Providers (look for the NMVTIS logo) can include vehicle condition data from sources other than NMVTIS.
NMVTIS data INCLUDES (as available by those entities required to report to the System): Information from participating state motor vehicle titling agencies; information on automobiles, buses, trucks, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, motor homes, and tractors (NMVTIS may not currently include commercial vehicles or off-road powersports if those vehicles are not included in a state's primary database for title records); information on “brands” applied to vehicles provided by participating state motor vehicle titling agencies; most recent odometer reading in the state's title record; information from insurance companies, and auto recyclers, including junk and salvage yards, that is required by law to be reported to the system, beginning March 31, 2009 (including if the vehicle was determined to be a “total loss” by an insurance carrier); and information from junk and salvage yards receiving a “cash for clunkers” vehicle traded-in under the CARS Act of 2009.
Consumers are advised to visit vehiclehistory.bja.ojp.gov for details on how to interpret the information in the system and understand the meaning of various labels applied to vehicles by the motor vehicle titling agencies.

2.1 Acceptance of Terms: By accessing CheckMyToy.com, running a pre-check, or purchasing a vehicle or vessel history report, you agree to be bound by these Master Terms of Service, including our mandatory binding arbitration and class-action waiver provisions.
2.2 Nature of Service & Non-Guarantee: CheckMyToy LLC operates strictly as an automated software interface and informational verification conduit. We do not physically inspect vehicles or vessels, verify physical VIN/HIN stampings against paper titles, guarantee marketable or clear title, or provide legal or financial advice.
2.3 Non-FCRA Notice: CHECKMYTOY LLC IS NOT A CONSUMER REPORTING AGENCY UNDER THE FAIR CREDIT REPORTING ACT (15 U.S.C. § 1681 ET SEQ.). Data accessed through this website does not constitute a “consumer report” and may not be used to determine eligibility for personal credit, employment, insurance underwriting, or tenancy.
2.4 Data & Report Fulfillment Scope: Full 17-digit VIN history reports are fulfilled using data from Authorized NMVTIS Data Providers and supplemental commercial lien, theft, and salvage databases. Full 12-digit Boat/PWC HIN reports are fulfilled through specialized marine history databases incorporating U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), state watercraft registration, and marine lien/salvage records. Because certain U.S. jurisdictions do not issue formal motor vehicle titles for off-road-only ATVs, UTVs, or dirt bikes, state title records for off-road powersports are available only where titled by the state; supplemental national theft and lien records are screened where available.
2.5 Limitation of Liability: All pre-checks and reports are provided “AS IS” without warranties of any kind. In no event shall the total cumulative liability of CheckMyToy LLC, its members, or its data partners exceed the amount paid by you for the specific report giving rise to the claim, or $25.00, whichever is less.
3.1 Information We Collect: When you use CheckMyToy.com, we collect the 17-digit VIN or 12-digit HIN entered into our search console, basic device/browser telemetry for fraud and bot prevention, and—when you purchase a report—your email address and payment confirmation metadata processed via our PCI-DSS Level 1 compliant payment processor (Stripe) or authorized fulfillment partners.
3.2 How We Use Information: We use your submitted VIN/HIN and email address strictly to decode vehicle specifications, query authorized NMVTIS and marine databases, deliver your requested vehicle/vessel history report, and provide customer support.
3.3 Zero Sale of Personal Data: CheckMyToy LLC does not sell, rent, or trade your personal contact information to third-party telemarketers or data brokers. Queries are transmitted over encrypted HTTPS/TLS connections.
4.1 Instant Digital Delivery: Because NMVTIS and marine title/lien history reports are digital informational products compiled and delivered immediately upon checkout, completed report deliveries are generally non-refundable once the database record has been unlocked and transmitted.
4.2 Eligible Refund Circumstances: We gladly issue a full 100% refund within 14 days of purchase if: (a) a technical error prevented your report from generating or being delivered; (b) you were accidentally charged more than once for the same VIN or HIN; or (c) the identifier passed our pre-check but our upstream NMVTIS/marine data provider returned an unreadable or failed system response.
4.3 How to Request Support or a Refund: Email our support desk at support@checkmytoy.com with your VIN/HIN and transaction receipt. All inquiries are resolved within 1 business day.
5.1 FTC Affiliate & Partner Compensation Disclosure (16 CFR Part 255): CheckMyToy LLC provides its initial 17-digit VIN (NHTSA) and 12-digit HIN (USCG MIC) pre-check service free of charge to consumers. To fund site operations, CheckMyToy LLC participates in commercial affiliate and partner fulfillment programs with Authorized NMVTIS Data Providers and specialized marine history registries. When you click an outbound checkout button or text link on CheckMyToy.com to purchase a complete history report, CheckMyToy LLC may earn a referral or affiliate commission at no additional cost to you.
5.2 No Third-Party Brand Graphics or Endorsement: CheckMyToy.com intentionally utilizes clean, first-party custom Call-to-Action (CTA) buttons and plain-text disclosures rather than third-party partner banner graphics or manufacturer logos. References to vehicle makes (e.g., Yamaha, Polaris, Honda, Kawasaki, Sea-Doo, Harley-Davidson) or peer-to-peer marketplaces (e.g., Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, LetGo, Craigslist, Instagram) are strictly nominative and descriptive. CheckMyToy LLC is an independent Limited Liability Company and is not owned by, sponsored by, or officially endorsed by any vehicle manufacturer or peer-to-peer marketplace.
5.3 Stripe Payment Processing & Financial Security: Direct checkout transactions and payment settlements for CheckMyToy LLC are processed through Stripe, Inc., a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. CheckMyToy LLC never stores raw credit card numbers, CVV codes, or bank credentials on its servers. By completing a transaction via Stripe, you also agree to Stripe's Services Agreement and Privacy Policy (stripe.com/privacy). Partner-hosted report checkouts are governed by the respective PCI-compliant checkout terms of the fulfilling data provider.
